Department of Homeland Security Extends Temporary Protected Status for Burundi and Sudan

The Department of Homeland Security published notices today that extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Burundi and Sudan until November 2, 2005.  Nationals of Burundi who already have TPS have a 60-day re-registration period, from October 7, 2004 until December 6, 2004.  Nationals of Sudan who already have TPS may re-register during the same period.  At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security is re-designating Sudan.  This means that nationals of Sudan who do not currently have TPS, but have been residing in the United States and continously physically present in the United States since October 7, 2004, may apply for first time TPS under the new re-designation.
