In a Fact Sheet titled, "Worksite Enforcement," issued on August 9, 2007, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted the enforcement efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) aimed at businesses employing undocumented immigrants. The Fact Sheet gives an overview of the criminal activities at fifteen businesses, ranging in size and type of operation. Descriptions include the individuals involved, lists of charges, fines levied, and the number of arrests.
The Fact Sheet begins with a statement from Julie Myers, Assistant Secretary for Homeland Security at ICE, which summarizes the key message of this publication:
"Worksite enforcement actions target a key component of the illicit support structure that enable illegal immigration to flourish. No employer, regardless of industry or location is immune from complying with the nation's laws. ICE and our law enforcement partners will continue to bring all of our authorities to bear in this fight using criminal charges, asset seizures, administrative arrests and deportations."
